Down with Dogs is an outdoor doggy daycare located on a 70 acre section of land in Makara, Wellington. We have a ¼ acre fenced off yard for your dogs to socialise, relax and play. We also have a big shelter and heater for those cold and wet days.
We teach all dogs, basic obedience, loose lead walking, how to walk nicely in a pack, impulse control and staying calm in distracting environments. We believe that dogs need clear communication and boundaries from us humans. This means, praising/ reinforcing them when they're doing a good job, and redirecting/ correcting them when they're not making the right decisions. If they don't know what they are doing wrong they will most likely keep doing it!
Dogs are picked up from home between 7.00 am and 930 am and are safely transported in caged vans to the property in Makara. They stay there for 3.5 hours where they socialise, play, and relax in the yard. We also take the dogs on a pack walk each day to explore the 70 acres of land that's on offer. If it is too hot for a walk, we take small groups of dogs down to the stream instead.
We have between 2 and 3 experienced dog handlers in the yard at all times. The dogs are always supervised, and the dogs play and interactions are managed. We strive for a calm atmosphere, where all dogs are happy and balanced. We practice basic obedience with the dogs, such a sit, down, long duration stays, and recall.
Dogs are then dropped back home between 1.30pm and 4pm. Dogs are away from home from between 4 and 6 hours due to transit time. The daily rate is $60 per day, pick up and drop off is included in the price.
Before we start any dog, Alex schedules a time to come and meet you and your dog at your house. This is to ensure your dog will be a good fit, and to see where to collect him/ her from.
As I sit down to work at a computer it is so wonderful to think that Peggy spends her day outside in amongst wood chip, hay bales and even an old bath.
